During this visit we were underwhelmed with the Japanese art collection and found little inspiration, however after looking at a Chinese throne we though it fit our work perfectly. It had beautiful carvings of a dragon hiding above the clouds which was a stunning connection to our tale.
Unfortunately this was a similar tale in the Natural History as there were not many native Japanese animals on display nor any detail of any movement or trade through that area of Asia. In the end I managed to find a figure of a tiger in the gift shot and thought it could be good reference for later during creation.
I am disappointed I wont be creating the character myself as I grew fond of the design and style, however I feel Yorimasa would be better for me as I would be forced to work smaller and thus challenge myself more in areas I wish to grow.
During the sculpting of his face I was able to give him more humanized features which will allow a greater audience connection during animation.
