Difficulties in miniature

I knew a lot of planning had to go into these drawings. Using a paper ruler also added difficulty to each element and I changing so much of the original measurements I knew it would be harder than just decorating what I already have.
Starting from the furthest part of the wall I began the measurements, I would not be able to change this is I was actually dressing the scene as it was stone so adding walls around it would be easier especially considering that the rest consisted of windows which could be unhinged. Even if that was not the case my design would still be safe and work well as a concept.
I started with the elevated platform as a base, allowing me to test if every connecting element fits.
Moving onto the small squared window walls and decorations I was able to secure everything down (after painting) with ease.
The roof proved difficult as I was unsure how to create the classic curved/pointed style. After talking to David Neat I learnt of a technique that recreated the tiled aesthetic that would save me a lot of time compared to my ideas. The method consisted of cutting across the inner grain into small strips and pressing down one end. This was an extremely efficient way of working and I hope to use it again. I struggled moving onto the next step which was to curve the roof, in some ways I succeeded as I was able to get a slight curve after much effort however it was not as promonant as hoped. However after adding a second layer of tiling I found it to be a lot more pleasing to the eye and fit in a lot better with a lot of my research. it was only after completion did I realize the tiles of Japanese housing often faced forward, meaning next time I need to focus more on keeping true to the source material rather than the method of work. Nonetheless it is a good technique I can use for the future.
The door was another aspect I came away realizing a flaw. It was only after super gluing it down did I notice how tall in ratio it would be compared to my scaled down figure. Due to the state of which it was stuck down and the fine detail I knew it would cause more damage to try and remove, so this was another thing I now know to keep in mind for the future - always keep refrences on hand to ensure continuity it met. I hope to create more mood boards for future topics as I found them extremely helpful during the making process.
